St Patrick’s Female Athletes Representing Malta Over The Weekend

6 of our club athletes were abroad over the weekend representing Malta in various disciplines.  On Saturday 12th July, Giselle Camilleri, Angele Sammut and Carmen Hili tackled the mountains of Gap, France at the European Mountain Championships. Giselle Camilleri placed 59th overall in a time of 51.34 whilst Angele and Carmen finished 61st and 62nd (out of 66 athletes) overall in a time of  52.36 and 53.50 respectively. Considering the absence of any mountains on our islands, it was a fine showing by our athletes as they gave all their best to be at the same level of the other Europeans finest mountain runners

Meanwhile 3 of our female youngsters took part in the Fisec Games in Vienna, Austria. The highlight of the weekend was the gold medal and silver medal won by Janet Richard in the 400m and 200m respectively.  Janet won the 400m in an impressive 56.38 whilst in the 200m race she clocked 25.50 to come in 2nd overall. The younger Nicole Attard Glivau also took part on the 200m and 400m event. Nicole failed to quallify for the 200m final were she finished her heat in 2nd place  (out of 4 athletes) in a time of 27.67. In the 400m race she qualified for the final were she placed first in her heat but unfortunately she had to drop out from the final as she fell ill. Rebecca Fitz was the other St.Patrick’s athlete taking part at the Fisec Games where she took part in the Long Jump and 100m hurdles. In the Long Jump, Rebecca placed 15th overall out of 24 athletes with a jump of 4.92m whilst in the 100m hurdles placed 4th with a time of 15.44

Meanwhile in the coming days Danica Bonello Spiteri will be taking part in the Commonwealth Games in the triathlon event. From the club committee we would like to wish her the best of luck.
